Orly Old School Orange

Hey guys!  I am just finishing up a day of beautify-ing.  I got my hair cut, brightened up and glossed, bought a couple polishes during my errands, and topped off the day with a few exciting swatches.  One of today's exciting grabs was Orly Old School Orange, a matte finished and super bright orange jellyish creme.  Orly polishes are 3 Free and come with slightly more polish (.6 fl oz rather than the standard .5 fl oz or less) that other brands.
2 coats Old School Orange, no top coat, artificial light
Now I said that this was a jellyish creme, but don't go expecting an OPI sorbet that requires about 4 coats.  This polish is a bit translucent, but still opaque in 2 coats.  You don't need a top coat on this because this polish is all about the satin finish.  Satin finishes are the middle ground between matte and standard shine, and that is what sets this polish aside from the endless oranges that have come out in the past few years.  I can't speak for the wear on this, but I'm a big fan.  This came out as part of the Plastix collection which I think was last year.  I grabbed four recently and i think that's the entire collection.  They are still readily available online!

Nail Art: Shower Together w/ Orly Stripes

Hey everyone - I hope you're enjoying your weekends!  For the last 24 hours I've been obsessing over Tumblr.  I am so impressed by the awesome stuff that pops up so quickly, especially the nail stuff!  I saw some really cool striped manis today that inspired me to try out some of my new Orly Instant Artist nail art polishes.  I used China Glaze Shower Together as my base color,  I meant to grab some solo pics of Shower together, but uuhhh yea I forgot.  It's a great bright blue creme with an incredible formula.  It applies in buttery smooth coats and built up to a great shiny pop of color in 3 thin coats.

After a few minutes I grabbed the nail art polishes.  I wasn't sure how many colors I would do originally so I started with the obvious match, purple.  These Orly artist colors are awesome.  Some nail art polishes are too transparent but these are solid over everything!  They applied smoothly and the long thin brush was easy to manage.  The bottles are long thin versions of the regular polishes, right down to the grippy polish cap.

My first few tries ended up really crooked so I threw an extra coat of Shower Together over to hide the botched stripes.  I eventually got more steady and although the lines aren't perfect I think they are just how I want them.  I left it at 2 colors so that I wouldn't ruin a good thing!  After a minute I slapped on some Seche Vite and now I have my perfect Saturday night mani.  I just hopped on ebay to grab some more colors of the Orly Instant Artist polishes so that I can do whatever color combos I desire.

Hope you like it!  Enjoy your weekends and be safe :)

My 4th of July Mani

Hey everyone!  Happy 4th of July!  I'm still in Hilton Head but managed to sneak in mani and some quick pics.  I won't review these polishes now since there are 6 of them involved, but you can expect these to get reviewed when they are used for full manis at some point in the future.
Alternating Shatter Mani!

2 coats Orly Star Spangled + 1 coat blue shatter and Seche Vite, sunlight
For this mani I used BTOUCH Bet On This Blue (see review here), Orly Star Spangled (red), and Savina French White.  I topped these with OPI's White, Blue and Red Shatters and a coat of Seche Vite.  I didn't manage to get right up to my base colors' edge because my shatters needed more thinning, but I think the effect still works!  These are all keepers for me (not that you would have doubted it).

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ENTER OUR NFU OH 61 GIVEAWAY!  GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!  Entries received after 11:59 PM EST WILL NOT be counted!

Happy 4th!

Orly: Crush On You

Hello polish addicts!

Hope everyone is doing well. Today I have for you, Orly Crush On You. I bought this polish about a month back, when Shbecky and I went on a road trip to buy patio furniture and pit stopped at a beauty supply store. We did some SERIOUS damage - and this polish is one of my favorite buys of that trip!

1 coat OPI Natural Nail Base Coat + 1 coat any opaque white + 2 coats Orly Crush On You + 1 coat Seche Vite, artificial light

Crush On You is a unique shade of orangey yellow. It is not a neon but is very bright and has a warm gold tone to it. Don't get me wrong - there is no shimmer or frost to this polish whatsoever. But it has a very beautiful yellow hue. I've worn this polish in the past and, when I thew it over just a base coat, I could not get it opaque for the life of me. I think I wore 5 coats and still had VNL. So this time, I threw on a coat of opaque white on first. This worked perfectly - love this trick.

same as above

This Orly applied like a dream. The brush is amazing - thick and soft. It is glossy and so pleasant to apply and look at. The polish takes a few seconds to self level but don't worry - it will all smooth out and make for a great finish. I think it is pretty clear to tell that I LOVE this baby and I recommend it to any orange fiends out there. The color is unique and application is a breeze.

Off to work on a paper for my research assistantship on a Friday night =/ good thing I love this stuff!!!
